Recently, Bungie, Inc., a video game development company based in Washington announced major layoffs on Monday, October 30th. In a statement released by Bungie’s CEO, Pete Parsons, he thanked the company, but most importantly posted a farewell message to the colleagues who have been a part of Bungie. What could have possibly gone wrong? Unfortunately, Bungie became just another company amongst the long list corporations that recently laid off many employees.

Bungie, Inc, known for releasing games such as Destiny, and Halo, has generated long term success over the years. Halo alone brought major attention to the company. In 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced their deal to acquire ‘Halo’ for an estimated $3.6 Billion from Bungie. With a company generating this much success, many are wondering what happened. Bungie’s representatives have yet to clarify their reason for this layoff.

Bungie’s layoffs came during a horrible time for game industry workers. According to an article written by Geekwire, a total of about 6,100 employees have been laid off from game industry jobs since September 2023. This is a troubling period for many.
